An advanced level weekend workshop with Tamandua & Briki
Hosted by Luhmen D’arc at Sihl13
‘Improvisation and choice is often confused with randomness and uniqueness.
In this case the approach will be quite the opposite, and rather focus on small adjustments and room for creativity within the already familiar, specifically taught tie/shape.
Training this 'eye' is beneficial to navigate larger, more obscure topics relevant to kinbaku such as aesthetic and empathetic sense.’

Topic specific evening workshop for experienced beginners and up.
Hosted by Luhmen D’arc at Sihl13
‘This class will teach ties that incorporate a thin bamboo stick by tying it against the body.
The ties are designed to introduce an additional element of restriction, when tying on the floor, utilising the rigidness of the bamboo stick as opposed to the very pliable quality of rope.’

In this class we focus on the bare bones of suspension technique and purpose.
Suitable for students who are new to the subject of suspension work, but not new to tying in general. Or, for students of rope with a bit more experience, who nonetheless have an interest in Tamanduas particular style of kinbaku, wishing to sharpen their skillset under the guidance of his and Brikis guidance.
Tamandua and Briki will teach the most important principles of upline/suspension usage, and how it interacts with rope structures (harnesses etc), and with the body itself in a experiential as well as anatomical sense.
The weekend will be heavy on technical explanations and drills. Despite this, we aim to incorporate them into pleasurable explorations of concepts throughout as well.
Taking this workshop is also highly recommended if you wish to attend more advanced classes from Tamandua in the future, including majority of all international intensives offered.
TOPICS
What does an upline do? Understanding uplines as a tool for control and effect.
What makes a tie suspendable? Focus on proper tension and placement when tying harnesses and single column for a suspension scene
Basic suspendable versions of some of Tamanduas common patterns - TK/gote, tengu, futomomo, legs together harness
Technical drills for safely attaching and locking, lifting and lowering lines with ease
Surrender, resistance and flow - perspectives on being in ropes
Introduction to common shape categories: gyaku ebi (facedown backbend), torsions, M-shape (spread leg), face up
General safety: nerve damage, efficiency vs solidity, risk evaluation
PREREQUISITES FOR ATTENDING
Be able to, with ease, tie a single column tie which does not collapse or open when pulled. Please practice a lot before the workshop!
Be able to tie some kind of solid harnesses on the floor. Meaning the ropes should not loosen or shift placement on the skin when the models position is changed (ex from crouching to stretching out). Neither should they cause onbvious circulation loss or pain.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Some basic familiarity with how suspension works, as showed and explained by a teacher or experienced student of shibari.
This is to ensure everyone in the group has some basic references for understanding the instructions well.
If you do not have this, please contact an instructor or rope group near you for advice prior to the event.
BRING
A kit of jute ropes sold for the purpose of shibari/kinbaku, so called single ply, around 6mm thick.
Minimum 7 ropes of standard length (ca 7,5-8 meters) and 1 cut into a couple of shorter bits.
Ropes from hardware stores, boat shops, or sex shops intended for bedroom bondage are generally not well suited for this type of tying.
Safety shears
A climbing sling or extra long rope to put up as your suspension point
4 carabiner OR 1 ring and 2+ carabiner

It's no secret that shibari has an arousing pull that attracts a large number of people. The intention behind this class is to explore the erotic potential of floorwork.
Perhaps the most obvious element of attraction is the conscious act of giving and receiving control, and the heightened state created through focused attention of the act. A type of attention often described as objectifying in affectionate and cruel ways.
There are also the fetishistic qualities which are unique to rope; the way it grips and asserts force on the body, how it moves across the skin and in positions we associate with a certain emotional charge.
A few relatively simple ties will be taught, using 1-4 ropes each, to research the importance of choices in areas such as body manipulation and the quality of rope 'touch' to provoke and preserve sensual tension.
This workshop is not meant to tell truths about how to feel, or what dynamic an erotic tying session should contain, but to give tools and inspiration to play.
Requirements:
Tying couples should feel enthusiastic about exploring sensual and intimate rope together. For safety reasons, you should know your tying partner prior to the class in order to feel confident about your ability to communicate with each other.
People tying need to know (at least) basic tying skills well, such as being able to make single-column tie, double-column tie and simple harnesses without step-for-step instruction.
Switching is allowed between exercises but not within in order not to rush through things.
Bring:
A kit of single ply jute ropes sold for the purpose of shibari/kinbaku, around 6mm thick. Minimum 4 ropes of ca 7,5-8 meters length plus 1 cut into a couple of shorter bits.
Ropes from hardware stores, or from sex stores intended for bedroom bondage are not recommended!
